Last year, Huawei Mate 50 was one of the earliest flagships with the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipsets, although without 5G capability. And without Google apps installed, it faced a huge challenge for anyone outside of China.

With that in mind, let’s get ourselves acquainted with the upcoming Mate 60 which is said to be sporting the below specs:

  • 6.69-inch LTPO OLED with 1212 x 2616 pixels or ~441 ppi density

Coming in with a large 6.69-inch LTPO OLED screen, the Mate 60 sports a beautiful and solid metal body with glass on its front and back. The ultra-reliable basalt structure integrates three layers of protection. The ultra-resistant second-generation Kunlun glass, ultra-tough basalt body, and ultra-durable polyamide fibre material comprehensively protect it. Backed by the IP68 rating, this one has plenty of protection. So you can go ahead and bring it together with you anywhere you go, doing all the things you love and not worry about it getting damaged by the elements.

Under the hood of the Mate 60 is the highest-end Kirin 9000S chipset paired with a speedy Cortex octa-core processor with a new type of graphics and a whopping 12GB of memory. This combination will make short work of all the apps and games you can find out there. You will find that even the most demanding games will be no problem on this device.

In terms of camera, the Mate 60 comes with a 50MP+12MP+12MP triple primary camera setup. It has a super optical zoom main camera with 10 adjustable physical apertures. It also has a periscope telephoto camera and an ultra-wide-angle camera, giving you a fantastic world overview. The laser autofocus, PDAF (phase detection autofocus) and OIS (optical image stabilisation) make for some of the most outstanding photos you can capture on a camera smartphone. Then there’s also the amazing 13MP selfie camera, making the package complete.

Storage-wise, the Mate 60 has plenty of options available. Depending on your budget, you can choose 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of internal storage. Whichever option you choose, the available Nano Memory expansion slot can easily add up to 256GB of space.

Another highlight of the show about the Mate 60 is the joy of its 66W fast charging feature. It only takes 30 minutes to get it up to 100% of charge; how cool is that? And with the 50W fast wireless charging, you don’t have to be tied to any cables.

Finally, the dual-sim feature should add more value to it.

Conclusion:

You can probably see why the Huawei Mate 60 ranks up there with the big boys. Even though hampered by external factors, it still comes out tops. Even without direct support for Google apps like Gmail, YouTube, Drive and the rest – there should be a workaround to it. The only thing that needs clarity is whether this amazing device will finally have 5G connectivity. Although it’s not confirmed yet, strong winds have been blowing about it. If it comes with 5G, we all know it will be a big hit worldwide.

Huawei Mate 60 is set to be released on September 10th 2023, with an estimated price tag of 5,999 Chinese Yuan or ~825 USD for the 512GB internal storage variant. Four colours will be available: Black, White, Green and Purple.
